When you suddenly get the spark to try using a journal, and you don’t have one on hand, use anything at your disposal. This can be a notebook, blank pages in your daily planner, a Post-it or just a blank sheet of paper from your printer. It can literally by anything that you are able to write on.
You Can Write Any Time, Wherever You Are
You also don’t need to be restricted to only writing in your journal during a certain time of day. Yes, many people like to write during their morning or nighttime routine, but it is in no way mandatory. If you tend to get interest in journaling when you aren’t at home, buy a notebook or journal that you can carry with you. This allows you to write while on the bus or train, in an Uber, at your desk at work, or while sitting in carpool waiting for your kids to get out of school.
You Can Write About Any Topic
You can also choose whatever you want to write about, even if it’s a different topic every day. Journaling is easy because of how versatile it is. You can write about your feelings, what you are anxious about, your plans for the weekends, past memories you want to reflect on, something you are confused about in your life, your bucket list, anything you can possibly imagine.
It Only Takes a Few Minutes
Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of time, most people don’t. All you need is about 5 minutes a day, and you can benefit from using a journal. In fact, it might help to keep your journaling sessions short in the beginning. Commit to just one page in your journal or writing for 5-10 minutes, and that’s it. Over time, you might have some days where you want to write more, but you definitely don’t have to.
